TREAT YOURSELF WITH TIME!

AN EXCEPTIONAL MOUNTAIL CABIN

Spring and summer in the mountains are a time when we can literally experience Tatra nature. Chata Groń is situated in the heart of Podhale landscape, among blooming meadows – sheep are grazed by bacas (shepherds) right below our windows. For over 100 years, the local folklore, traditions and views have captivated tourists in the Tatra Mountains. The mountains themselves are still an inspiration for those who seek peace and breathing space.
From the windows of our living room and from our garden you can admire the view of majestic mountains – green and gentle slopes of Gorce on one side, slender Tatras on the other. Such places are said to have “a million dollar view”.
Wooden architecture is the cultural heritage of Podhale. Our cabin is also part of this tradition. We built or house of larch płazy – which are logs cut lengthwise and sealed with so-called “mossing”. The cabin is a cross between tradition and modernity – cosy and atmospheric, but with modern amenities at the same time. Even our logo refers to the roof ridge and pazdura, which, while serving a decorative purpose, is supposed to protect the hearth and home in highlander tradition.

BIKE TRAILS

Chata Groń surroundings are a paradise for bike lovers. One of the best-known bicycle attractions is the Trail Around Tatras (Szlak Wokół Tatr) – a cross-border bicycle project within which Polish and Slovakian local councils created a bike loop of over 250 km.

If you are planning a bike trip, it is a good idea to make sure that the chosen bicycle route matches your skill level and physical condition, especially if you ride with children. The route between Nowy Targ (Poland) and Trstena (Slovakia) is often recommended. You will find here gentle trails with beautiful views as well as more challenging approaches for ambitious gravel-lovers. The routes lead through Podhale, Orawa, Liptów and Spisz – regions especially important to pastoral culture. The track around Czorsztyńskie Lake (so-called Velo Czorsztyn, with the option of a cruise ) is ideal for families and less experienced cyclists.

Podhale, with its picturesque paths, rarely used dirt roads and trails, is a Mecca for mountain biking. High performance pros should test themselves on the Spiska Pętla (Spiska Loop) trail or visit the secluded area of a former military camp between Kieżmark and Stara Lubovna.

For seasoned road cyclists, there are Tour de Pologne routes a few hundred metres from Chata Groń. Their elevations and straight sections are perfect for efficiency and riding technique training.

Local bike rental shops offer a wide variety of bicycles: from the most recent MTB models, through electric and cross to road bikes.

During summer time Kotelnica offers another attraction worth trying: a downhill ride on special off-road scooters on one of its slopes.

HIKING TRAILS

Chata Groń is a great starting point for walking, Nordic walking, hiking and high mountain trekking.

In the immediate vincinity of our cabin, there are gentle trails to the upper station of Kotelnica Białczańska ski lift, or to Białka Tatrzańska – down the slopes of Kaniówka. The whole Groń area offers access to charming, rarely visited paths and walk routes.

Palenica Białczańska, the starting point of the most popular trails in Polish Tatras – to Morskie Oko (Eye of the Sea) and Dolina Pięciu Stawów Polskich (The Valley of Five Lakes), is only a 15-minute drive away from our cabin.

Slovakian trails, as picturesque as Polish, but much less touristy, are also very near – a 15-30 drive away.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

Recent years have witnessed a true investment boom connected with geothermal energy in Podhale. There are a few geothermal baths in the immediate vincinity of Chata Groń – they are all about 10-15 minutes away by car.

Water temperature in the thermal pools is between 30 and 38 Celsius degrees. Additionally, all resorts offer saunas, infrared saunas, SPA zones with wellness and rejuvenation centres, hydro massage, water jets, slides and lots of attractions for children.

Podhale is also famous for its cuisine, which, though simple due to climate and social factors, is also sophisticated and delicious. It abounds in potato dishes, cabbage, sheep milk cheese, lamb and mutton. Among the best-known dishes there are: kwaśnica (barberry), moskol pancakes, baked mutton, żętyca (sheep milk whey) and bombolki (traditional yeast cakes). It is a good idea to try these delicacies in regional restaurants such as Schronisko Bukowina, Restauracja Widok, Szymkówka and many others.

Chata Groń guests appreciate especially the peace and quiet they can enjoy while surrounded by unique Podhale nature. Those overworked have an opportunity to break away from everyday life, calm their mind and contemplate the mountain landscape. Those who prefer spending their time actively will be able to recharge their batteries.
